The remains of the family of seven who died in a house fire in Omagh have been laid to rest following a funeral service in the town.

The funeral Mass was in the Sacred Heart Church in Omagh at 10am this morning.

It was followed by the burial of Arthur McElhill in Ederney, Co Fermanagh, and Lorraine McGovern and their five children at Corlough, Co Cavan.

In his homily at the funeral mass, Monsignor Joseph Donnelly described the tragedy as one of unimaginable devastation.

He also cautioned against the spread of rumours on how the fire started.

Post mortem examinations showed that 39-year-old Arthur McElhill, his 30-year-old partner Lorraine McGovern and the children, aged between 10 months and 13 years, died of smoke inhalation in the house fire at Lammy Crescent earlier this month.

Forensic tests have revealed that petrol was sprinkled inside the house and then set alight. A murder investigation is continuing.
