The HSE has rejected the claim that there is a cover-up in Cork University Hospital relating to a review of work carried out by a locum pathologist at Cork University Hospital.
Earlier Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny questioned whether information relating to a review of work carried out by the pathologist is being covered up.
Cork University Hospital reiterates that the patients in question remain their priority and that it is not appropriate to publicly discuss the details of the review until the patients who require a follow-up consultation have been seen by a doctor.
The locum pathologist worked at Cork University Hospital for around six weeks in July and August. He resigned after questions were raised about his previous work at University College Hospital in Galway.
The HSE sent more than 1,000 of the tests he had conducted to a laboratory in London for review. The HSE is refusing to say how many patients have been recalled as a result of that review.
Enda Kenny claimed neither the Taoiseach, the Minister for Health nor the HSE had been prepared to reveal how many patients had been called back after the review.
Mr Kenny said the matter had been in the public domain for a number of days and he asked if there was a cover-up, given that the information was not being released.
Speaking in Cork today, he said the failure to release the information could only lead him to conclude that it was being delayed 'until the heat of the scandal at Portlaoise has abated.'
