EU foreign and defence ministers met in Brussels today to approve plans to deploy a military force to Chad.
The Minister for Defence, Willie O'Dea, will brief the meeting on the proposed Irish commitment of up to 400 troops.
The proposal will go before a Cabinet meeting in Dublin tomorrow. The Dáil will also have to approve the move.
If approved, the first of the soldiers could be on the ground in eastern Chad by early December, with the remainder due to be deployed in January.
The Chad operation's Irish commander, General Pat Nash, will also be present at today's meeting in Brussels
