A teenager from Co Louth is being treated for severe burns to his face after he was hit by a firework which was thrown from a passing car.
Daryl Berrill, 13, was struck by the firework as he was walking home from his local shop in Dromiskin at around 4pm on Sunday afternoon.
The firework hit Daryl in the face and exploded.
His family say doctors have told them the scars should disappear over time.
It is not thought the incident was deliberate but his family want the people responsible to come forward.
The firework is believed to have been thrown from a red car with tinted windows, possibly a Toyota or a Honda.
Gardaí have examined CCTV footage from the area as part of their investigation and are appealing to for anyone with information to contact Castlebellingham station.
