Talks are continuing tonight at the LRC following the suspension of a threat to shut down the country's largest power station.

Pickets had been due to be placed at Moneypoint from 7pm however, the threat was lifted for 24 hours.

Speaking on his way into the LRC, TEEU General Secretary Designate Eamon Devoy said the threat of a strike remains.

He said it is unacceptable that workers be treated in this way - having pay witheld from them - in this day and age.

The delegation from the ESB did not comment on their way into talks.

The strike by 200 Polish members of the TEEU at the ESB plant in Moneypoint has been deferred for 24 hours to allow them to consider proposals to settle their dispute.

The proposals will be finalised by the LRC and put to the TEEU, the ESB, its main contractor Lentjes and subcontractor ZRE later today.

It was after midnight when the immediate threat of power cuts receded.

After nine hours of complex negotiations the TEEU agreed to defer placing pickets on the Moneypoint plant, a move that could have led to blackouts.

Meanwhile, the LRC will also be trying to devise a framework to ensure similar situations do not arise again at the ESB.
