Beverley Flynn - May be re-admitted to the Fianna Fáil party

The General Secretary of the Fianna Fáil party, Sean Dorgan, is meeting local members in Castlebar to discuss the re-admission of Beverley Flynn to the party.

The move follows bankruptcy proceedings taken by RTÉ against Ms Flynn being struck out at the High Court.

Ms Flynn owed the station nearly €3m but RTÉ agreed a settlement of €1.225m.

Ms Flynn was expelled from the Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party in 2004 after the Supreme Court upheld a High Court judgment which found she had facilitated tax evasion while working for National Irish Bank.

It is believed tonight's meeting is one of the final steps in bringing her back into the party.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has already indicated that she could be in position for a Junior Ministry during the lifetime of this Government.
