A man has died after he was hit by an articulated truck on the N7 in Co Tipperary.

A man has died after he was hit by an articulated truck on the N7 in Co Tipperary.

The accident happened north of the village of Birdhill beside the Yellow Bridge Inn, on the main Limerick to Dublin road.

The victim, a man in his 70s, believed to be from Dublin.

He was leaving the Inn to return to his car at around 1.30pm this afternoon, when he was hit by the truck.

He was taken to the Mid Western Regional hospital in Nenagh, but has since died.

The road was closed for a technical examination and has since reopened but a 15km tailback of traffic has resulted.
