A second cow has tested positive for Bluetongue at the same farm as the first case in Ipswich, Suffolk.

Britain's Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs said the infected cow has been slaughtered.

Earlier today a new temporary control zone was declared in Hampshire as a precautionary measure after the discovery of a suspected case of foot and mouth disease there.

This afternoon DEFRA said that initial tests on another suspected case in the same county discovered yesterday were negative.

In Ireland, it has been announced that special measures to guard against foot and mouth disease will be in place at the National Ploughing Championships near Tullamore over the next three days.

Spectators attending the event will have to disinfect their footwear when entering the livestock section.
