Gardaí say forensic evidence and DNA from the house where a Longford mother was found strangled will be crucial to solving the murder.

The body of 37-year-old Sharon Coughlan was found downstairs in the locked bathroom of a house on Greatwater Street a short distance from her home.

Detectives believe she was murdered in the house and say it is possible she may have known her killer because there was no evidence of a struggle.

A helicopter has been brought in to carry out a search of the area near where her body was found. Gardaí are also examining CCTV footage.

Gardaí have interviewed a number of local people this morning in relation to the murder inquiry, but no arrests have been made.
