Cartographers say they have had to redraw coastlines, reduce the size of seas and lakes and reclassify land to keep up with the rapid changes.
The latest edition of The Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World shows that Lake Chad in Africa has shrunk by 95% since 1963, while the Dead Sea is 25m lower than it was 50 years ago.
The publishing editor of the Atlas, Jethro Lennox, says there is a real fear that in the near future famous geographical features will disappear forever.
