A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in Co Leitrim.
The 58-year-old man was knocked down at Tomrud, Manorhamilton, shortly before 10pm last night.
The scene was preserved for technical examination, and the N16 from Tomrud to Shanvaus was to remain closed until around 3pm this afternoon.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact Manorhamilton Garda Station on 071-9820620.
About the same time, eight people were brought to hospital following a two-car collision on the Cavan Bypass.
That was the second multiple injury accident yesterday. Eight other people, inmcluding a child, had been hospitalised after a four-car incident on the N61 at Ballybeg, near Athlone, at luinchtime.
Meanwhile, the woman who died in a road accident on the Cork-Kerry border yesterday evening has been named.
She was Catherine Teresa Daly from Nohoval, Rathmore, Co Kerry.
The 85-year-old was the front seat passenger in a car - driven by her husband - which was in a collision with a van on the N72 between Mallow and Killarney.
Her husband and the driver of the van are being treated in hospital for minor injuries.
Gardaí are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Elsewhere, gardaí in Youghal, Co Cork, have released the name of the man who was killed in a crash on Thursday.
He was Kevin Sexton, 60, from Oak Hill, Youghal.
