Catholic Church withdraws support for Amnesty

watch

The Catholic Church has urged Catholic organisations worldwide to withdraw their support for Amnesty International after the human rights group backed women's right to an abortion if their lives are in danger or if they have been raped.

Amnesty gave its backing to abortion at the end of its annual meeting in Mexico City.

The group said it would work to support the decriminalisation of abortion, and to defend women's access to abortion when their health or human rights are in danger.
