Toy manufacturer Mattel is recalling two million toys sold in Ireland and Britain over safety fears.
The company is concerned about levels of lead paint and small magnets in the toys, which were manufactured in China.
More than 18 million Mattel toys are being recalled worldwide and it is the second time in two weeks that the company has had to recall products.
The safety scare follows reports of children swallowing small magnets when they fell loose from the toys.
According to a joint statement from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Mattel, there had been three reports of serious injuries to children who swallowed more than one magnet.
All three suffered intestinal perforations that required surgery.
If swallowed, the magnets could attract each other and cause intestinal perforation, infection or blockage, which can be fatal.
Chinese made Sarge toys from the Pixar film Cars have also been recalled because their paint contains lead.
Earlier this month, Fisher Price recalled more than 22,000 toys that had been on sale in Ireland since May, because the paint used on them contained lead.
Mattel, Fisher Price parent company, said the toys were made by a contract manufacturer in China using a non-approved paint pigment.
Yesterday it emerged that the boss of the Chinese toy manufacturing company involved in the recall had killed himself.
Zhang Shuhong, a Hong Kong businessman in his 50s and boss of the Lida Toy Company in Guangdong, was found dead in his factory workshop over the weekend. He had hung himself.
The Fisher Price toys recalled earlier this month included Dora The Explorer and Diego products as well as toy music machines.
Products that are affected in the new recall include:
* Polly Pocket dolls and accessories with magnets,
* Doggie Day Care magnetic toys,
* Barbie and Tanner magnetic toys,
* Batman and One Piece play sets
* Sarge toys from the Pixar film Cars
