Following the success of shows such as Riverdance a decade ago, it is now thought that in excess of 250,000 people take Irish dancing classes worldwide.
The new site hopes to plug into both the spread of Irish dance and the success of networking sites such as Bebo and MySpace.
Diddlyi.com allows Irish dancers and schools from around the world to share advice, meet other dancers, and promote Irish culture.
Set up by Tipperary-born brothers Paul and former Riverdancer Shane McAvinchey, the site was launched last month and already sees thousands of visitors each week.
In April, the World Irish Dancing Championships in Glasgow saw 4,000 competitors from over 300 dance schools attending. 12 countries, from as far apart as the US, Japan, South Africa and Germany, were represented at the event.
More than of half the competitors were from outside Ireland.
