A 51-year-old man has been charged with making bomb threats against Tesco supermarkets which forced the retailer to close 14 stores in Britain earlier this month.

Philip McHugh from Lancashire was charged with two offences of blackmail and two of making threats, according to police in Hertfordshire where Tesco has its headquarters.

He is due to appear before Stevenage magistrates later today.
