Management and Unions at Eircom are due to appear at the Labour Relations Commission on Monday in a bid to resolve the dispute over a 2% wage increases due under the national pay agreement.
The Communications Workers Union Deputy Secretary, Terry Delaney, has defended the union's decision to serve strike notice on Eircom in advance of the LRC hearing.
He said that 96% of CWU members had voted to strike and that the union had to give effect to that decision.
He added that the CWU welcomed the intervention of the Labour Relations Commission.
