Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has told the Dáil that it is most likely that the referendum on the new EU treaty will be held next summer.

Mr Ahern also said that if the Government decides to go ahead with the children's referendum, it would make sense to hold it at the same time as the EU referendum.

Agreement on a new treaty came last month after a two-day meeting of EU leaders in Brussels.
