The Road Safety Authority is appealing to motorists to slow down and drive carefully following five deaths on Irish roads since last night.
It follows yesterday's announcement that road fatalities so far this year were down by 39 on last year's figures.
That figure has now been reduced to 35 following crashes in counties Monaghan, Dublin and Louth.
Three of the victims died within a half-hour period. All were men.
An 80-year-old man became the first victim of this weekend's carnage on the roads, when he was struck by a truck while crossing the road in Emyvale, Co Monaghan, yesterday.
He was taken to hospital but died shortly after 9pm last night.
In Dublin, a 37-year-old man died when the car he was driving crashed into another vehicle on the Belgard Road in Clondalkin at 12.20am.
Two women who were travelling in the second car were injured.
Ten minutes later in Co Louth, a 36-year-old man was killed in a collision at Hackballscross in Dundalk.
Gardaí now believe a third vehicle may have been involved in this accident and are appealing to those involved, some of whom may be seriously injured, to contact them and to seek medical attention.
A 17-year-old boy, who was a passenger in another car, was injured.
The N53 is currently closed at the scene of the crash and diversions are in place.
20 minutes after that accident, a 38-year-old man lost his life in a single-vehicle accident in Drogheda.
The car he was driving went out of control and struck a telegraph pole on the Rathmullen Road at 12.50am.
This afternoon a man was killed in a two car collision near Portlaoise in Co Laois.
The vicitm was the driver of one the cars.
The accident happened at around half past two this afternoon at the Cork exit from the M7 roundabout.
Traffic diversions are in place.
