The world's largest single order of Steinway baby grand pianos has been delivered to Cork as part of the final preparations for the opening of the city's new School of Music later this month.
The delivery of 57 pianos includes 54 baby grand pianos, costing in excess of €3m.
It is the single biggest order of baby grands in the 170-year-old history of the world famous Steinway company.
Made predominately from maple, each 2.08m (6'10") baby grand costs €75,000 and takes a year to build.
Over the coming days five Steinway technicians will set them up and tune them at a rate of four pianos a day.
The arrival of the pianos is proof positive that country's first purpose built music conservatory is now a reality.
The school's opening will be welcome news for the county's 127 teachers, who have spent the past five years teaching at 16 different locations in Cork city.
