Sargent says he has faith in tribunals
Thursday, 14 June 2007 20:14The former Green Party leader, Trevor Sargent, has said that he has faith in the tribunals to find out the truth about the Taoiseach's finances.
Mr Sargent was responding to criticisms from the leaders of the Labour Party and Fine Gael about how he no longer seemed to have any questions on the matter.
He said that it was 'strange and difficult' to listen to Pat Rabbitte and Enda Kenny raise questions about the Taoiseach in the Dáil when they had avoided doing so during the General Election campaign.
He described their approach as 'cynical'.
Deputy Sargent also criticised Mr Kenny for not looking at the first Inter-Party Government of 1948 as a model of achieving power.
He said that, had Mr Kenny really wanted to achieve power, he would have negotiated with Sinn Féin to form a Government, just as Fine Gael's John A Costelloe had appointed former IRA chief Sean McBride as Minister for Foreign Affairs.
