There has been an increase in the number of serious crimes recorded in 2006 compared to the previous year.
According to the 2006 Annual Report of An Garda Síochána, which was published today, a total of 103,710 serious or headline crimes were recorded.
Detection rate rose by 5% to 40%; meaning that two out of every five serious crimes were solved by gardaí.
The number of female rape cases reported dropped slightly.
Almost 18,000 people were arrested for drink driving, which is a 33% increase on 2005 figures.
