US President George W Bush has said that Russia has nothing to fear from a missile defence system to be built by the US in Eastern Europe.

Mr Bush was speaking during a visit to Prague in the Czech Republic ahead of attending the G8 summit in Germany.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to aim weapons at Europe if the US continues with its missile plans.

Mr Bush said that the Cold War is over and that Russia is not an enemy of the US.

Ahead of his keynote speech this afternoon, Mr Bush met the Czech President, Vaclav Klaus, at the start of his eight-day visit to Europe.

Mr Bush and Mr Putin will meet in the German city of Rostock for the G8 summit, which starts later this week.
