Preparations are continuing by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael for contacts with other parties and Independent TDs on the formation of a Government.

The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and the Fianna Fáil deputy leader Brian Cowen met today to review the results of the General Election.

A spokeswoman for the party said they had analysed the results across all constituencies and intend to meet again over the next couple of days.

On the prospects for Government, she said both men committed themselves to looking at all possible options to ensure stability over five years.

Ministers will not be meeting tomorrow but are due to have their first post election cabinet tomorrow-week.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny was due to meet party officials and Labour leader Pat Rabbitte in Dublin today.
