165 jobs are to be lost at a medicare company in Athlone, Co Westmeath.

Workers at Conor Medsystems, in the IDA industrial estate on the Dublin Road, had been expecting an announcement from the US parent group with regard to the future of the plant.

The company said last week that it had difficulties with a medical product on the US markets.
