Iran's national security chief, Ali Larijani, has said that his country does not intend to wipe Israel 'off the map.'

Mr Larijani made the remarks during a session of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East which opened on the shores of the Dead Sea.

He said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had spoken of 'erasing the practices' followed by Israel against the Palestinians, rather than erasing Israel.

Mr Larajani said the Western media had deliberately distorted President Ahmadinejad's words in their reports.
