Police in the North are investigating an incident in which a gang of youths broke into a postal sorting office in east Belfast last night.

Up to five youths entered the Castlereagh office carrying sledgehammers and crowbars.

They removed a section of perimeter fence at Prince Regent Drive shortly after midnight and forced open a fire door at the back of the building.

The PSNI said an office was damaged during the raid and a quantity of general mail was taken.

The youths were wearing tracksuits and had their heads and faces covered.

Police have appealed for information.
