Eight killed in Gaza attack

Eight members of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas' presidential guard were killed in an attack carried out by Hamas gunmen.

The attack took place near the Karni commercial crossing between the Gaza Strip and Israel, according to security officials.

Other attacks in Gaza claimed two more lives, bringing to 18 the number of Palestinians killed in just three days of the deadliest factional violence in months in Gaza, where the streets were largely empty except for prowling gangs of masked men.

For many Palestinians, the violence was particularly disturbing, coming on the "Nakba", an annual day of national reflection over shared suffering in the conflict with Israel.
