The High Court has begun hearing a challenge by two Independent TDs and a Dublin West voter to the constitutionality of ward boundaries.
Dublin North Central TD Finian McGrath, Kildare North TD, Catherine Murphy and Feargal Molloy from Dublin West claim that census figures show a number of constituencies will have too many TDs and some will have too few.
They also claim the constituencies, as revised by the 2005 Electoral Amendment Act, breach the constitutional provisions guaranteeing fair and equal representation of voters.
Lawyers for the TDs have said they do accept the validity of the general election that has been called.
