The outgoing Sinn Féin TD for Kerry North, Martin Ferris, has said results from a urine sample he gave following his arrest on suspicion of drink driving have shown that he was under the limit.

In a statement, Mr Ferris said he was confident at the time of his arrest that he was under the limit, and he now felt vindicated.

However, he said he still regretted what happened and that he would not drive if he found himself in the same position again.

Mr Ferris was arrested near his home at Ardfert, Co Kerry, in the early hours of Sunday 22 April.

He later admitted that he had drunk two pints and a glass of red wine in the course of Saturday night, 21 April.
