Voters go to polls in British elections

Voting is under way in Britain in elections which polls suggest will result in severe losses for the ruling Labour Party.

About 39 million people are voting for most English local authorities - outside London - the Welsh Assembly and local councils in Scotland, as well as the Scottish Parliament.

Polls there suggest that Labour may come second to the Scottish National Party, although these have narrowed recently.
