The two people that died in a road traffic accident in Co Longford this afternoon were a mother and daughter.
The elderly woman and her daughter, thought to be aged in her early 60s, were driving their Opel car when it collided with another car at Dring.
The two drivers of the cars involved who are both female were taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, with serious injuries.
The road between Granard and Aughnacliffe remains sealed off and will do so for a number of hours as crash team investigators carry out an examination of the area.
Elsewhere, a man in his 30s has died after the car he was driving hit a wall in Co Wexford.
The accident happened on the N11 at Cooran, Enniscorthy, at around 3am this morning.
No other vehicles were involved and the driver was on his own in the car at the time.
The scene was preserved for technical examination.
Today's deaths bring to 117 the number of people to die on Irish roads this year.
