'No legal standing' to Lawlor challenge

Lawyers for the Mahon Tribunal have told the High Court that the widow of former TD Liam Lawlor has no legal standing to mount a legal challenge to the tribunal.

Hazel Lawlor is asking the court to stop the Quarryvale Two module of the tribunal from going ahead in advance of her legal challenge being heard.

However Senior Counsel Denis McDonald, told the court that Mrs Lawlor's complaints were based on historic events relating to her late husband.

He said there was no right to defend the reputation of a deceased person.

That might sound harsh, he said, but that was the law.

The case will continue tomorrow.
