The three nominees are MLAs Alex Maskey, Martina Anderson and Daithí McKay.

The board is due to be reconstituted after devolution is up and running from 8 May.

Ms Anderson was arrested in 1985 at a flat in Glasgow with four other IRA members including the Brighton bomber Patrick Magee.

The following year, all five were convicted of conspiring to cause explosions in England and Ms Anderson was subsequently released in 1998 under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement.

Last month, she was elected to the Stormont Assembly for the Foyle constituency and was this afternoon announced as one of three Sinn Féin representatives who will serve on the soon to be reconstituted policing board.
