Galway City Council has announced that it will start a tendering process to allow other suppliers to tender to supply the council water scheme.
Up until now, the 'buy one get one free' initiative had only applied to Galway Irish Spring Water.
The City Council is changing the terms of the scheme after other water suppliers described it as anti-competitive and unfair.
The sales manager of Dun Carrick Water, Damien Murphy, said earlier today that the city council had placed their company at a disadvantage in the marketplace, and should have sought tenders for the water scheme.
Mr Murphy also said that smaller shopkeepers, which make up his main customer base, had demanded that Dun Carrick offer the 'buy one get one free' scheme.
Meanwhile, the Health Service Executive says the number of confirmed cases of cryptosporidiosis bug in Galway city and county is 186.
