A new suicide prevention programme is being launched today.
The initiative at the Cluain Mhuire Clinic in Blackrock, Co Dublin, will have a Suicide Crisis Assessment Nurse who will refer patients to services that best meet their needs.
It is the first scheme of its kind and will run as a three-year pilot project.
Dr Siobhan Barry, Clinical Director of Cluain Mhuire, says in many cases patients often get referred to mental health services when they do not need to be.
