A change to the marriage laws, to facilitate seriously ill people who wish to marry, is due to be approved by the Dáil tonight.

The Minister for Health, Mary Harney, said the present marriage laws require the ceremony to be held in a public place, but this could prevent the marriage of some seriously ill people.

The law is being changed to allow for marriages to take place in a person's home, or other private places, subject to agreement with the person performing the ceremony.
