Siberian coalmine explosion kills 78

The death toll from a methane explosion at a coal mine in Siberia has risen to 75.

More than 40 miners are still trapped underground.

Rescue work is being hampered by thick smoke and collapsed rooves.

It is the deadliest accident to hit the Kemerovo region in about three years.

Dozens of miners, some injured, were rescued after the blast.

Officials said 168 miners were underground at the time of the blast.

The rescue operation is continuing.
