A 40-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a woman at her home in Craughwell, Co Galway, at a sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Galway.
Kieran Lynch, from Askeaton Co Limerick, with an address in Derryhoyle, Craughwell, was charged with the murder of Catherine McEnery, 35, in July 2005.
Mr Justice Paul Carney said the trial was a historic one as it was the first time since the foundation of the State that the Central Criminal Court had sat in Galway.
The court was told the trial is expected to last up to three weeks.
