Six One News: Will Goodbody reports that 28-year-old Thomas McDonagh was shot dead in Ronanstown
Members of the Garda Technical Bureau have begun an examination at the scene.
The victim has been named as Thomas McDonagh.
The 28-year-old was shot a number of times outside his house at St Mark's estate in Ronanstown just just after 9.30pm.
His assailant was a lone gunman.
Mr McDonagh had a two-year-old son and had been living at the house with his girlfriend for the last two years.
He was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the St Mark's Crescent estate between 9pm and 10pm last night to contact them.
