Smoking ban in effect in France

A widescale ban on smoking in the workplace came into force in France today.

A widescale ban on smoking in the workplace came into force in France today.

Individuals will face fines for lighting up in hospitals, schools, offices, railway stations and airports.

Employees at private companies will be allowed to smoke but only if sealed rooms are installed for them.

French restaurants and bars have been given until the end of the year to comply.

Hotel rooms, prison cells and private rooms in retirement homes are exempt from the legislation.
