Strike averted at Bausch & Lomb

A planned strike action at the Bausch and Lomb contact-lens making factory in the IDA Industrial Estate in Waterford has been called off.

The company had put 1,500 workers at the facility on protective notice after they voted to take industrial action.

But both sides have agreed to go to the Labour Relations Commission, with talks starting in the morning.

According to the union, the TEEU, the dispute centres on the suspension of a shop steward.

That suspension has been lifted to help facilitate the talks.
