Businesses advised over internet guidelines

Updated: 15:20, Thursday, 28 December 2006

The Small Firms Association has advised businesses to introduce Internet and email guidelines for workers to prohibit access to offensive material and to protect the interests of the company.

The association is warning that email and Internet abuse by employees can leave businesses open to possible libel and sexual harassment claims.

The SFA estimates that more than €575 million in productivity is lost every year because of employees misusing the Internet.
