Court recommends rise in minimum wage

Updated: 22:15, Wednesday, 29 November 2006

The Labour Court has recommended that the minimum wage be raised by €1 to €8.65 p/hr in the new year.

The court wants the increase implemented in two phases in January and July.

The recommendation has been sent to Minister for Labour Affairs, Tony Killeen, for his consideration.

But IBEC director, Brendan McGinty has warned that the proposed increase in the minimum wage will push up the costs of goods and services and make Ireland even more expensive.
