A patient support group has called on the Medical Council to publish the findings of an inquiry into the conduct of three consultants who cleared former obstetrician Dr Michael Neary.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio's This Week programme, Sheila O'Connor of Patient Focus said patients deserved answers.

Dr Neary was suspended when concerns were expressed about the number of caesarean hysterectomies he performed at our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

At that time, Dr Neary asked three colleagues to review a number of his controversial cases. Two of the three obstetricians concluded that all the cases they reviewed were justified.

The third consultant said Dr Neary should continue to work pending any formal investigation.
