Govt not budging on Shannon stopover policy

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern, has told the Dáil that the Government has no plans to reconsider its decision to allow the US military to use Shannon Airport.

During minister's questions, Mr Ahern said there are no plans to reconsider the long-standing policy of successive Governments to extend landing and overflight facilities to US military aircraft.

He also said the Government shared the widespread concerns at what he said was 'the extremely difficult situation in Iraq'.
