The Federation of Irish Nursing Homes has said it is surprised and concerned that reports about nursing homes, some of which are being vigorously disputed, have been leaked to the media.
In a statement, the organisation said the nursing homes sector had made immense strides to deal with recent issues.
The FINH said the sector has been endeavouring to work openly and constructively with the Health Service Executive in the best interests of staff, patients and their families.
It claimed there was now a witch-hunt to name nursing homes on issues and it asked the HSE to work in partnership in planning for the future of the sector.
