Two unions representing around 40,000 nurses have expressed grave dissatisfaction and disappointment with a Labour Court decision rejecting their claims for increased pay and conditions.

The INO and the Psychiatric Nurses Association said today they would prepare a plan of action to be presented at a national Pay rally for nurses in Dublin on 22 November.

The unions will consider all options including industrial action.

They are also to lodge a further claim for a 3% cost of living increase from December.

INO General Secretary Liam Doran said it was too early to suggest industrial action was inevitable, as the plan of action will have to be voted on.

The Unions say they do not support the 'Benchmarking Two' process as a way of progressing their claims, because of its terms of reference.
