World ceremonies mark Armistice Day

Ceremonies took place at 11am this morning to commemorate Armistice Day, marking the 88th anniversary of end of the first World War.

Ceremonies took place at 11am this morning to commemorate Armistice Day, marking the 88th anniversary of end of the first World War. 

A wreath laying ceremony was held at the War Memorial at Islandbridge in Dublin at which a two-minute silence was observed. 

Ceremonies also took place throughout the UK and France, as well as Australia, New Zealand and Canada. 

Meanwhile, France's oldest veteran from World War I has died at the age of 111. 

Maurice Floquet fought in Belgium and France and was seriously wounded twice.
