A senior Christian Brother has admitted that his Order gave incorrect information to the Mahon Tribunal about meetings with former lobbyist Frank Dunlop during attempts to rezone land in north Dublin.

The tribunal heard that the Christian Brothers tried to get 70 acres of their land at Balheary, near Swords, rezoned for housing in the early 1990s.

The Order told the tribunal that the first contact between the Christian Brothers and Frank Dunlop was in October 1993.

But today Provincial Superior Brother John Heneghan said it now appears from documentation that there were two earlier meetings in March 1991 and May 1993.

Br Heneghan said Mr Dunlop was hired to lobby councillors by builder Joe Tiernan and not by the Christian Brothers.

Mr Dunlop claims he paid bribes totalling £4,000 to four different councillors in May 1993 as part of an unsuccessful attempt to get the lands rezoned.

Mr Dunlop does not allege that either the Christian Brothers or Mr Tiernan knew about the bribes.
