The Oireachtas committee investigating the behaviour of Circuit Court Judge Brian Curtin said it is not prepared to postpone the start of private hearings, due to begin on Monday.

The judge, alleged to have had images of child pornography on his home computer, had sought the adjournment yesterday.

It is felt that the committee's decision may now be challenged in the courts.

The committee chairman, Fianna Fail Deputy Denis O'Donovan, pointed out that Judge Curtin's legal team had already been granted a week's adjournment.

He said it was 30 months since the committee was first established and the committee members were anxious to push on with their work.

The committee is due to hear from around 20 witnesses during two weeks of private hearings due to begin next week.

The committee is investigating Judge Curtin's behaviour, and how images of child pornography were allegedly found on his computer.
